The wonderful collaboration of Tairāwhiti Enviroschools with Tūranga Ararau, Te Kaunihera o te Tairāwhiti/ Gisborne District Council, HB Williams and JN Williams Trusts, Department of Conservation, Gisborne Airport and Tairāwhiti Environment Centre has empowered young people of this area to engage in building knowledge and skills for restoration. A number of people have been involved in enabling and sustaining this intergenerational approach to caring for local waterways and biodiversity.
Enviroschools WaiRestoration is a facilitated project that focuses on taking action to restore local waterways and biodiversity. This is a collaborative approach involving whole communities, evolving in response to issues of water health and management and a desire to engage a range of people. It is built on the effectiveness of a series of practical steps that school communities can engage in to make positive changes in their water catchments.
