Over the last 3 years a huge range of restoration projects across the country were enhanced through a one billion trees (1BT) partnership between Toimata Foundation and Te Uru Rākau.
A key focus of the partnership was extending ecological action on the ground across the Enviroschools and Te Aho Tū Roa networks. By leveraging our strong and committed network across the motu, the 1BT collaboration with Toimata achieved a wide geographic spread and local engagement with communities in a range of ways.
A highlight for us at Toimata are the stories and photos shared by the participants across our Enviroschools and Te Aho Tū Roa networks who have benefited from the 1BT funding. There is deep gratitude and appreciation across the motu for the support.
This project has reinforced to us the value of our nationwide network and high-trust relationships with schools, kura, kōhanga, early childhood centres, councils, communities, hapū, and iwi. Through these strong connections we have been able to spread the funds widely to support over 100 projects in all regions. Given the commitment of our participants, we are confident that the mahi of these last 3 years will continue to make a lasting impact.
We mihi to those in our network, and everyone in all places, taking action to restore biodiversity, care for the whenua and bring peace, aroha and hauora to our communities, our taiao and our world.
