The experiential learning about rimurimu (seaweed) in Te Upoko o te Ika has extended now into restoration work, as the plant-out of kelplings is being trialled. Rangatahi from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Ngā Mokopuna are not only actively involved in the mahi, they are also front and centre of relaying their learnings nationally…
o Te Whanganui ā-Tara
Eke Tangaroa, eke Panuku

Eight students (Years 8-11), attained their PADI Freediving Open Water and Scientific Diving Certification as part of a project to help monitor seaweed around the Wellington harbour and with our seaweed plant-outs in various community restoration sites such as Hutia Kākāriki (Worser Bay), and in Te Motu Kairangi (Miramar Peninsula).
Some of these rangatahi have been with the kaupapa since its inception in 2019. The training has enabled them to be directly involved with plant outs and monitoring training with the loverimurimu kaupapa, which is making waves across greater Wellington.
